First let me introduce you to the NYC Team. Teresa is the Team Leader and the followers are Jackie, John, Jo, Kathleen, Andrew, Micha, Hailey, Eric, Rick, Debbie and me (Kirsten).
We had an amazing day today…a day that is truly undescribable with words. We served lunch today in Harlem…we prayed with people, talked to people, listened to people, loved people, clothed people and WE WERE BLESSED by these people! Did I mention that it rained on the way to Harlem and it stopped as soon as we got there and the sun came out? God is good…
We were each blessed with moments that have changed our lives forever…I would like to share something I was blessed with today. I was on the street and Jo, who was serving in the bus, noticed a man reading the book “Words of Wisdom” and he was highlighting. She flagged me over and said that she thought that man may like a Bible. Jo got a Bible and I took it to him and asked him if he would like to have it. He was so excited about receiving the Bible…I shared with him what Tim Ayers shared during one of his recent sermons. If you didn’t hear that sermon I will recap…Tim shared that he likes to read the Proverb that corresponds with the date highlighting what touches him. I shared this idea with this man. So we determined the date, found Proverbs and he went to Proverb 26. He began reading the verses and then he handed off to me. We read all of Proverb 26 and he marked the verses that spoke to him. Words can not describe what a moment this was with this man and how amazing it was to experience this daily devotional with him today.
The team was able to hand out the donations that we brought with us…a big thank you to many of you! This evening we went to the projects and had the opportunity to see many kids. It was really hard to comprehend these kids walking by themselves, in the dark, in this dangerous neighborhood. We were able to give this kids coloring books, crayons, reading books, candy, toothbrushes and toothpaste. Yes we realize it was ridiculous to give candy and dental hygiene together but Hailey made them each promise to brush their teeth after the candy.
To be able to love them was amazing…
Well it has been a long day…I won’t go on and on. What I want to share is that God is so good and he blessed us with the people we met today! Both the people that we met on the streets and the amazing people that serve on the Relief Bus full time. What amazing servants…Again thank you to all of you for your prayers during this trip. God is definitely watching over us!
